Description

This piece was commissioned by UK's Future Publishing as a tutorial piece for their new magazine, Imagine FX (the same issue also contains an interview with me). However, the version shown here is an updated version and different from the one published in Imagine FX. This painting depicts a family of three (mom, dad, and baby) being hunted by demon stalkers. The parents protect the baby with their lives while the demon stalkers conjure dark magic using the skull of a fallen comrade as the source of power. The father counters the assault with his own magic, channeled through his sword. Close-ups could be seen here: http://www.ethereality.info/ethereality_website/paintings_drawings/new/illustrations/till_death_do_us_part/till_death_do_us_part.htm

This revised versiion is much better than your previous ones. I always enjoy your artwork, this is no different. +10

This is an absolutely beautiful piece, but I have a question:

Is it just me, or does the demon stalker in the foreground seem like he's really short?

I think I realize, after some real looking, what's going on with his body, that his cape is draping over his arm, but when I first caught a glimpse, I thought that curve in the top left was his shoulder.

Otherwise, you had me at "demon stalkers."

Nice work, but maybe with a darker atmosphere it would have been catchier.

somehow not dynamic enough. Like the dude on the bottom left corner, he's just standing there doing nothing...

cool scene, but some material (the sword, and its magic, the closest demon's cloak and wooden scythe) not really convincing compared to the rest of the picture.
The past part are the heroes.

Thanks for all your comments!

Merls - Hey David!

pegahoul - Yeah, there's always something I don't like about all my pieces too.

Crow - I wanted the demons to look kind of lifeless, as they are only shell puppets.

ARTOONATOR - Yeah, that's would've been a different feel. I've always imagined autumn colors for this image since the beginning--don't know why.

This picture really tells a story and the characters are believable. Good work.
